Over the past four years CCEC has been dedicated to the mission of:

"Empower citizens to enhance Chatham’s future," by advocating and educating for well-planned and positive growth in the county and its municipalities; growth that preserves "rural character" and diverse cultural heritages. Through citizen advocacy and governmental influence, information dissemination and education programs CCEC has spoken on behalf of and along with increasing numbers of fellow citizens. 

Early on it became clear that such grass roots citizen action must become a long-term commitment rather than a short-term experiment. The formation of two not-for-profit citizen action organizations (CCEC and CCEC-Institute) demonstrated the determination to be on the scene for the "long haul".

CCEC’s continued existence depends on the financial support of fellow citizens who wish to manage growth in a manner that is faithful to Chatham’s Conservation and Land Use Development Plan and shared County Vision.
